Introducing Mikayla

  • Tell us about your family.

I am the second, and last, child of my parents, Jo Dee and Robert. My older brother, Travis, just recently turned 30 and is getting married in June! I have a fur child named Oliver that I adopted during Covid at 3 months old. He is now 5 and loves bananas, Babybel cheese, and making new friends.

  • What's the most adventurous thing you've ever done?

I’d say my most adventurous activity to date was when I traveled to Flam, Norway and ziplined the longest zipline in the Nordic region. The zipline dropped us off at a goat farm in the middle of the Flam mountains. We sipped some wine and ate some cheese and then headed out for a 6-hour bike ride back to town. I saw some of the most beautiful sights during the bike ride but spent the majority of it dangerously close to some very steep cliffs. No wonder they limited us to only a glass of wine each!

  • Can you share a special AA memory you have?

Oh my goodness, my time at AA has been filled with TONS of great and rewarding moments. There is nothing like seeing all of your hard work come together and even better when you get to enjoy it with your peers. While there have been plenty of challenging but rewarding moments, I think the most recent has to be the RCTC MoVal/March Field Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. That was a beast! I am so thankful that I had a team with me that worked so diligently to pull it off; we did that!!!

  • Tell us about your hobby.

In Spring of 2024, I started boxing training with a trainer that I found through social media. We train once a week, and it has quickly become my favorite part of the week. I think it’s really important for everyone to regularly practice some sort of self-defense and I chose boxing because it’s fast paced and a great way to get my cardio in as well.

  • What's your favorite book?

My favorite book is The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. He is actually one of my favorite authors and this book in particular is what introduced me to him. I highly recommend that everyone read it at least once in their life, I’ve read it about four times and learn something new every time.

  • Can you share a favorite restaurant recommendation?

My all-time favorite sushi spot is in Corona, and it’s called Dada Sushi! It’s a newer spot in The Shops at Dos Lagos shopping center, so, if you ever find yourself over there, I highly recommend it. (There is also a location in Murrieta, but I like the Corona one more.) Highly recommend the Yuzu Salmon roll!

  • Do you have a favorite birthday memory?

I spent my 18th birthday in Paris, France and it was so special! One of my favorite parts of Paris is Montmartre, where tons of artists line the streets to sell their artwork. Many also offer to draw your portrait which this man did for me.

  • If you were stranded on a deserted island, which three items would you want with you and why?

If I were stranded on a deserted island, I would want Oliver with me. We’d also need an endless supply of clean drinking water and an all-you-can-eat buffet down the beach.  Preferably one that also serves margaritas!

  • If you could meet a celebrity, who would it be and why?

If I could meet any celebrity, I would love to meet Joni Mitchell. I feel like we’d have a great time listening to music and talking about all the famous people she used to hang out with in the 60’s. Here is a painting I did of her a few years ago!
